The Orchestral MIDI Project
The Orchestral MIDI Project offers free downloadable MIDI audio files of standard clarinet orchestral excerpts which appear on professional auditions. It can be used as a teaching resource, but I hope it will be helpful to students, performers, and auditioners alike as a practice tool. The MIDIs are provided with a metronome in different tempos so one can practice the excerpts at various speeds and the excerpts are tuned at A=440. The MIDI files only omit the first clarinet part. The project took hours to complete in terms of the scanning process and making corrections to the orchestral scores in Sibelius. Special thanks to composers Clay Gonzalez and Ari Sussman for helping with these corrections in Sibelius. This idea was inspired by my mentor Daniel Gilbert (Professor at University of Michigan and former clarinetist of The Cleveland Orchestra) so I’m happy to realize this project.
